How to Install LDS Scriptures on a Blackberry

This is a short tutorial on how to install the Book of Mormon, Doctrine and Covenants, and Pearl of Great Price on a Blackberry. People are amazed when they see the scriptures on my Blackberry. I keep getting asked how to put scriptures on a Blackberry, so here’s how you do it. (I have a Blackberry Curve 8320, but this should work with all the newer Blackberries - Pearl 81xx, Curve 83xx, and 88xx.)

Step 1: Memory Card
- Make sure you have a large enough memory card. These are pretty cheap these days. My microsd card is 2GB.

Step 2: Install MobiPocket Reader
- You can download MobiPocket Reader here and follow the instructions listed on the website.

- Alternatively, you can install it over-the-air (OTA) by going to http://m.mobipocket.com/ from your Blackberry’s browser.

Step 3: Download LDS Scriptures
- This was the thing I had the most difficult time with. The church website, lds.org, does not offer the scriptures for MobiPocket. So, I had to find one online. Not just any version, a free version :). It took me a while, but I found one. I tried looking for it again the other day, but I couldn’t find it again for some reason. I’ll save you all some time by putting a copy of the one I downloaded here.

- After you download the file, unzip it and copy it to your Blackberry. (Basically, you plug your Blackberry into your computer with the USB cable. In Windows, click on My Computer and then click on the Blackberry drive; it should be listed as a flash drive. Then open the eBooks folder and copy the LDS Scriptures Blackberry.prc file to the eBook folder. On Macs, open up the mounted drive and go to the eBooks folder and copy the LDS Scriptures Blackberry.prc file to the eBooks folder.)

- That’s it! Open up MobiPocket on your Blackberry, and you should be able to see the scriptures.

Installing Additional Church Content
- Although you can’t download the scriptures from lds.org, you can download a bunch of other stuff like general conference, manuals, Ensigns, and hymns. Click here to go to the church download site. It says it's for Palm devices, but the files work for Blackberry as well.

(Disclaimer: I’m not responsible if you mess up your Blackberry. Make sure you back up your data before you try this!)

  8. I was very happy to find this post with a link to the scripture download! However, upon downloading the zip file, I found that it was empty. Can you please look into this?

Can anyone point me to any other download link for the LDS scriptures in the Mobipocket Reader format?

  9. Ok, I didn't give up and found a reader called iSilo that does the trick. It's not as good as YanCEyWare, but at least I have my scriptures and other publications on my Blackberry 8330.

Here are some links to get you started if you decide to go this route:

iSilo - Find iSilo reader downloads for Blackberry and Blackberry Touch here.

David's LDS iSolo eBooks - eBooks in the iSilo format, including the standard works.

More LDS eBooks in iSilo Format

  17. doesn't seem to work for Blackberry Storm. I could be doing something wrong however.

  18. For BB Storm and Curve, you need to install the Mobi client OTA (Over The Air). The client is currently in beta. Connect to http://m.mobipocket.com from your BB. Mobi could have made it more straightforward.

  19. I just installed the Mobi client on my Storm and downloaded the LDS scriptures, however, when I bring up the scriptures to read, I cannot scroll down the page to read further. All I can see is what first comes upon the screen. Anyway to make it scroll down?

  24. Been looking for days for the scriptures for my blackberry. Thanks for helping out. Does anyone out there know how to make the bookmarks work. I can bookmark a page, but can't locate it again. Anyway, thanks for all the info. You're awesome.

  25. Could you tell me what I do if there is no ebooks folder?

  26. installed mobireader OTA for my bb storm 9350. But when I start up the mobireader app, there is no menu/link to go and load in the *.prc files I have copied to the docs folder on the media card. Did not find an "ebooks" folder anywhere.

When I click on the only link in the app "eBookstore" only ebook titles come up that cost money. I might even be tempted to pay for some of them (there are thousands of books listed) but even these links only display some info about each book. No link to buy from. (sigh)

    Any ideas?

  27. Thanks very much for this link. When I first started up Mobipocket Reader (I'm running BETA version 6.0 Build 080 on the Blackberry Tour) I couldn't see this file listed. I had to close it and re-open it several times before it finally showed up and now it's great!

    Thanks again!
